Milano Marittima Seafront Promenade

The Milano Marittima Promenade
The Milano Marittima Seafront Promenade is constantly changing: it currently connects the Milano Marittima canal in front of the Baya hotel to the Cervia canal port and represents a beautiful walk, cool in the evening, an alternative to the centre, but also a useful route to reach the historic centre of Cervia on foot or with the bicycles that Hotel Baya provides free of charge for its guests.
But year after year the promenade increases its length: the new promenade inaugurated on 20 July 2018 is the crowning achievement of a long process of redevelopment linked to the preservation of the urban landscape and the historical and natural heritage of the garden city. The large green areas are perfectly integrated between the bathing establishments and the pedestrian cycle paths, up to 4 metres wide, are equipped with convenient bicycle parking, rest areas and socialising areas. The modern décor fits in perfectly with the surroundings and can also be seen at the roundabouts at the end of the crossings, which facilitate the manoeuvring of motor vehicles that are not allowed inside the promenade:

The Promenade stretches along a long stretch of Milano Marittima beach, so it touches on places of interest that were preserved during the redevelopment works and which can now be admired in a new reality.

The Dune
The Dune of Milano Marittima is an environment preserved in its original state and an example of the dune systems that once formed the natural banks of this part of the Adriatic coast. At first glance, it may appear to be an uncared for area, but it will be very interesting to assess in the coming years which spontaneous herbaceous and shrub plants will adapt and how they will develop alongside the tamarisk plants. The dune systems are at the same time a natural barrier against high waters, a protection for the backshore environments and an accumulation of sand able to feed the beach and thus partially counteract the effects of erosion, as well as being ecological niches of high environmental and landscape value.
In order to preserve it as much as possible, the only intervention was the construction of a few larch wooden walkways, which can be used to walk around and admire the various species of herbaceous plants and shrubs that grow spontaneously on the sandy soil of the Dune.
The Dune is located in the area of the seafront between Viale Forlì and Via Zara, on the side opposite the bathing establishments.

The Bunkers
Remains from a time when Milano Marittima was occupied by the Germans during the Second World War, the bunkers were discovered during the construction of the Promenade, hidden under the sand.
At first, numerous "dragon's teeth", blocks of cement with the characteristic shape of an anti-tank barrage, surfaced. Later, two Tobruk-type bunkers, one of them attached to the larger Regelbau 668, were brought to light.
Today it is possible to visit them by means of guided tours that retrace their history, full of fascinating details related to these places.
